Modernisation of an electrolysis system

On 3 December 2008 PCC Rokita SA and the Voivodeship Fund for Environment Protection and Water Management in Wrocław signed a Loan Agreement No. 17/UR/WR/2008 for the following project:

Modernisation of an electrolysis system

The value of the loan granted amounts to PLN 60 million. The total planned cost of the project is over PLN 100 million. It is to be implemented from April 2007 to June 2010.

The project aims at developing the existing mercury electrolysis with an additional unit producing chloride, lye and hydrogen with the use of a modern membrane technology. The total production capacity will remain unchanged (120 000 tons of Cl2/year), however its impact on the environment will be reduced considerably.

The project will allow us to reduce the demand for electric energy and the amount of sewage containing mercury.

The loan is a form of a horizontal public aid for environmental protection (preferential interest) granted under the Resolution of the Minister of the Environment of 8 April 2008 and allocated to projects aimed at application of technologies ensuring cleaner, energy-efficient production and saving raw materials.
