On September 11, 2020, PCC SE started working with PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad (PCG) to launch joint production of specialised chemicals in Malaysia.
PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad (PCG) is a leading integrated chemical producer in Malaysia and one of the largest ones in Southeast Asia. The core activity of PCG is producing, placing on the market and selling chemical products, including polymers, olefins, methanol, fertilizers and other basic chemicals and their derivatives. The new partner has acquired 50% of shares in our Malaysian design company, PCC Oxyalkylates Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (PCC-OM). The company was established in order to develop the PCC Group on very promising Asian markets. The aim of the project was to develop business through the use of extensive know-how in the production of polyols and surfactants in new markets.
Cooperation with PETRONAS will undoubtedly allow for a dynamic development of the PCC Group by combining the potential of both companies and gaining access to oxyalkylate markets in Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific. As a result, the PCC Group will be able to expand one of the main areas of its activity in these regions of the world.
The planned location of the new investment is a petrochemical complex in Kerteh, Terengganu constitutive state, where PCG operates as part of PETRONAS oil and gas corporation. The plan is to produce specialized oxyalkylates: ethoxylates and polyether polyols. The former are modern surfactants used for example in the production of detergents, cosmetics, personal hygiene and body care products. The latter include raw materials for the production of polyurethane foams in the furniture, automotive and other industries which make use of polyurethanes.
The above mentioned cooperation will cover the establishment of a modern R&D centre in Malaysia, which will allow for a dynamic development of the product portfolio and provide customers with a high level of innovation, designed and implemented in the production of chemicals.
Construction is planned to start in 2021, while production should start in 2023.
