CLP Regulation
CLP Regulation – Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council as of 16th December 2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures, amending and repealing Directives 67/548/EEC and 1999/45/EC, and amending Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006.
The Regulation came into force on the 20th day following its publication, i.e. on 20 January 2009.
CLP applies to manufacturers, importers, users or distributors of chemical substances or mixtures. The substances or mixtures, irrespective of the tonnage, must be classified, labelled and packaged in accordance with CLP Regulation before they are placed on the Community market.
Main objectives of CLP Regulation
- To enhance protection of human health and the environment by ensuring internationally comprehensible system of hazard communication
- To facilitate international trade in chemicals
- To reduce the necessity to test and evaluate chemicals

Safety data sheet

It should include substance classification under DSD; after 1 December 2010, also CLP classification. This will apply to both safety data sheets of substances as such and to safety data sheets of mixtures containing such substances.

It should include substance classification under DSD. However, if the substance is classified, labelled and packaged under CLP, safety data sheet should also include CLP classification.

By 1 June 2015
|
Is should include mixture classification under DPD. However, if the mixture is classified, labelled and packaged under CLP, safety data sheet shall also include CLP classification.

From 1 June 2015
|
It should include classification of substance and mixture under CLP.

Which chemicals are covered by CLP?
- Manufactured substances subject to registration under REACH Regulation
- Imported substances subject to registration under REACH Regulation
- Manufactured or imported substances classified as hazardous irrespective of the tonnage
- Imported mixtures which contain substances classified as hazardous irrespective of the tonnage
